Colour Cloth at Dulwich Picture Gallery

Stitch-School were excited to design a Colour Cloth inspired by the Colour Pavilion at Dulwich Picture Gallery created by Pricegore architects and designer Yinka Ilori.

Open to the public throughout Summer 2019, The Colour Palace is a fusion of West African and European influences, inspired by the buzz of fabric markets in Lagos, Nigeria, and incorporating symmetry, curves and right-angles – all elements present in Sir John Soane’s iconic 1811 design of the Gallery. On each side of the Pavilion, brightly coloured timber slats create layers that shift when viewed from different angles, bringing the Gallery’s grounds into technicolour life.

Stitch-School met Yinka in April, inspired by his colorful pattern design we designed the Colour Cloth, an interactive colour cloth based on colour geometry for all to stitch.

Over the summer Stitch-School took part in many events, including Friday Lates, Family Festival and a one week residency in September in the gallery space.

The final cloth is a riot of colour and beautiful stitching done by all ages and proudly on display in the Sackler Learning Centre at the gallery to share with the community.
